Barbara Herren attained her life’s work through vocational education. Her first experiences in vocational education at Ramona High School (now Caney Valley High School in Ramona, Oklahoma), led to inspiring leadership opportunities and the possibility of a college education. Ms. Herren graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BS degree in Home Economics Education with vocational certification and an MS degree in Trade and Industrial Education. She taught vocational subjects in comprehensive schools in Fairland and Dewey before coming to Tri County Tech. Ms. Herren served Tri County Tech students and staff as an Instructor, Curriculum Director, Director, and Assistant Superintendent. She also worked summers, weekends, and holidays for 13 years in furniture and home decor retail sales. After a 40-year career in vocational education, Ms. Herren retired in 2011. Currently, Ms. Herren enjoys time with family and friends, her home and garden, and volunteer work in the community.
